What to Look for When Renting an Apartment, Pt. 2
In our last post, we discussed three crucial things you need to check when viewing an apartment. While those were very important, they are not the only things that need to pass your inspection. Here are few more things to look for before deciding to sign the lease.
Check the Paint
When viewing a potential apartment, take a closer look at the paint job. If it is sloppy, and there are paint swipes on windows and baseboards, it could be a sign that your landlord hires less than stellar contractors to work on the apartment.
You will probably notice immediately if there are particularly bad smells in the apartment, but you should do your due diligence and give the apartment a decent smell-test. In each room, pay close attention to the smells. If you don’t notice the smell of gas, sewage, or other unpleasant odors then you are good to go.
Check the Appliances
It can be frustrating to move into a new apartment and discover that your appliances don’t work. Check each appliance that comes with the apartment to ensure that it is working properly. Turn on all the burners on the stove, turn on the oven, stick a hand in the fridge and freezer, to make sure that everything is functioning as intended.
